First identify whether the problem happens before the preview, during preparation, during the browser transfer, or inside the phone’s sharing menu. The error titles below come from SaveReels’ English interface, not invented examples. Translations use different wording.
Before the preview
Check the Instagram link
Paste the complete URL of a public Reel or single-video post, starting with https://www.instagram.com/.
Copy the full URL from one post. A missing hostname, incomplete shortcode or arbitrary pasted text is not a usable link.
This link type is not supported
Use one public Reel or single-video post. Profiles, Stories, audio-library pages, photos and carousels cannot be downloaded here.
A valid Instagram URL can still point to the wrong kind of page. Copy the individual public Reel or single-video post, not a profile, Story or audio page.
No video was found in this post
Choose another public Reel or single-video post. An image-only post cannot be downloaded as MP4 or converted to MP3. Repeating this request will not add a video.
If no video is found in the post, choose a different public video link. Repeating an image-only post will not make it downloadable as MP4 or MP3.
The post is not accessible to SaveReels
It may be private, removed or restricted. Check the original in a signed-out browser or choose another public video. A login prompt alone does not prove the post is private.
Compare what opens in a signed-out browser with what opens in your logged-in Instagram app. Do not share login cookies or passwords. Instagram can restrict public requests too, so a login screen alone does not establish that a post is private.
During preparation
Instagram media could not be retrieved
A preview can remain available after the video link expires or becomes restricted. Wait, then prepare the original post link again.
A thumbnail can load while the media stream is unavailable. Wait, then prepare the original post link again. An old direct media URL is not a substitute for the original post.
No audio track was found
The retrieved video contains no audio stream. Repeating the conversion will not create sound; choose a different video with audio.
This is about the retrieved stream. Sound heard inside Instagram may not be available in the file SaveReels retrieved. Choose another public clip with audio; repeating the same conversion cannot manufacture a missing track.
The audio could not be converted
This does not mean the original video is silent. Wait and prepare the original link again; if MP4 works but MP3 fails, send an audio report.
If MP4 works and MP3 does not, report the audio request. A conversion failure is not evidence that the source is silent.
The previous request has expired
Prepare the original Instagram link again to get a fresh download. Do not keep retrying the old download button.
Start a fresh request from the original Instagram URL. Refreshing an expired download link repeatedly will not recreate the file.
Too many requests
Wait at least a minute before trying again. Repeated requests can keep the temporary limit active.
Pause before retrying. Do not open many tabs or submit the same link repeatedly; those are not remedies for a temporary request limit.
The connection was interrupted
Check your internet connection, then try again. If the request keeps failing, wait and use the troubleshooting guide.
Check whether the connection or browser tab was interrupted. Retry the original link only after the connection is working.
This download could not be prepared
Check the original public Instagram link and try again later. Use the help panel to report a repeated failure.
Use the visible explanation and the step at which it failed. Do not assume that every preparation error means private content.
The spinner ends, but the file is missing
- Open your browser’s Downloads list. Check whether the transfer is still running, was blocked or failed. If no transfer started and Download Video or Download Audio is still active, select it. If the button is grey with a checkmark, reload the page and prepare the original Instagram link again.
- If the browser asks for permission to download, approve it only when you intended to save this file.
- On iPhone check Files; on Android check Downloads or the file manager. Photos/Gallery is not necessarily the browser’s destination.
The Save or share menu will not open
Tap Prepare file and wait for the green Save or share button, then tap it again to open the menu. The sharing control is mobile-only and depends on browser support. SaveReels limits shared files to 50 MiB; use Download Video or Download Audio for larger files.
Browser-sharing errors are shown below that button: a too-large-file message, an unsupported-file message, or a preparation/sharing failure. Cancelling the system menu is not an error and does not disable future attempts.
Mobile sharing limits
Mobile sharing: file too large
This file exceeds SaveReels’ 50 MiB sharing limit. Use Download instead.
SaveReels limits file sharing to 50 MiB. Use Download Video or Download Audio for larger files.
Mobile sharing: unsupported file
File sharing is unavailable for this file. Use Download instead.
Use the normal Download control. The browser must support sharing this actual file type, not just opening a URL.
Mobile sharing: preparation or sharing failed
Could not prepare sharing. Please try again or use Download.
Keep the page open, check the connection, and retry once. Use Download if the browser still cannot prepare the file. Cancelling the system menu is handled separately and does not show this failure.
Send a useful problem report
- Use Not working? on the result page and report the original Instagram URL, whether you selected video or audio, and the visible error or last completed step.
- State whether the browser download failed or the system sharing menu failed. Those use different mechanisms.
- Do not include passwords, Instagram session cookies or private messages. A report helps diagnose a supported workflow; it cannot make removed or private content downloadable.
